Jarvis Cocker Takes Over French Museum For A Week

10 May 2009 No Comment

jarvisJarvis Cocker, former lead singer of Pulp, took over the Galerie Chappe in Paris to rehearse songs for his upcoming tour, as well as create new songs - opening the whole thing up to the public. It goes well beyond that though….

“What if you invite members of the public to play with the band? Or invite them to submit song titles which the band then have to base an improvisation upon? Could a live band provide the accompaniment to an aerobics class? What happens if you play music from 12 noon til 7pm, 7 days a week? & What if you invite the kids from the local school to come round on their Wednesday off?”

He’s been streaming the whole thing at his website, but one of my favorite bits is the one below, with the French school children asking for something to eat, the location of the toilet, and ultimately dancing with Jarvis to an instrumental version of his new single, “Angela”.

A little later he joined his band for a cover of Survivor’s “Eye Of The Tiger”

Then he get’s a breath of fresh air outside the gallery (the band stays inside) and he performs a song from his new album.
