Coming up this weekend is the big What’s Up! Magazine New Music Showcase. For some reason they’re also billing it as the 11 Year Anniversary show - didn’t they just do that at the Wild Buffalo a couple of months ago? Anyway, this is a great opportunity to hear some up-and-coming local acts, including Bell-Tone faves Skyfire Puzzle. Although they are reason enough to hit the Rogue, there are other great bands on the bill, including Bluebird, Lumpkins, Addition and Birthday Boi. 5 bands for 3 bucks - whatta deal. …

It’s nearly 24 hours after the Sadies/Black Mountain show at the Wild Buffalo, and my ears are still ringing! I was a little worried that I wouldn’t get in - I never got around to picking up an advance ticket, and I had a indoor soccer game to play until 10pm, so I didn’t get there until a quarter after. The place looked packed when I looked in from the front door, but I was still able to get in. Apparently the show was declared sold-out shortly after that. It …

I can’t believe I nearly forgot this show, coming up in just a couple of weeks - The Sadies w/Black Mountain. I have loved the Sadies since their first album and have followed them closely over the years, picking up all of their CD and 7″ releases, and seeing them about 5 or 6 times live over the years. They are an amazing act - one you definitely don’t want to miss! They are playing at the Wild Buffalo March 26th - tickets are $12.

The Nightlight has slowly been adding new shows to their calendar - I haven’t had a chance to check it for a week or so, but there are some exciting new additions in April. First off is the Yogoman Burning Band CD Release Party on April 10th, with openers The All-Nighters and Sugar Sugar Sugar. This lineup is as close to perfection as you can get, in my mind, so it kills me that I won’t be able to make this show (not that I’ll be suffering too much - …

I can’t remember the last time Death Cab For Cutie played Bellingham, but I know it’s long overdue. The last time I saw them was in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, a long time ago. They’re finally hitting town, but sadly (and perhaps controversially), tickets are only available if you are a current WWU student. Which means all of their fans in town that supported them in the beginning can’t go to the show. The fair thing to do would be to have the band play a show at the …

The Wild Buffalo was the place to be on Saturday night - it was the 8th annual What’s Up Magazine Awards Show, featuring Lucky Brown, Sugar Sugar Sugar, Rooftops, Holy Tailfeathers, Candysound and Hot Roddin’ Romeos. The crowd was slow to build at first, but then again, it was only about 9pm when things kicked off. The Hot Roddin’ Romeos played a fired up set of psychobilly tunes, pleasing their friends and fans in front of the stage, and winning some new fans as well. The crowd built in time …

This is the 2nd fanzine from my collection of zines from the early-to-mid 90’s. This was a freebee that came with a cassette tape featuring the unique stylings of Grover and Noggin. Sadly, I don’t have a cassette player at the moment, but I’ll find a way to listen to it later and review it here. I picked this one up at the Newstand, which at the time seemed to be the best place to pick up free local fanzines. You could also find them at the 3-B and the …
