I can’t believe I nearly forgot this show, coming up in just a couple of weeks - The Sadies w/Black Mountain. I have loved the Sadies since their first album and have followed them closely over the years, picking up all of their CD and 7″ releases, and seeing them about 5 or 6 times live over the years. They are an amazing act - one you definitely don’t want to miss! They are playing at the Wild Buffalo March 26th - tickets are $12.

The Nightlight has slowly been adding new shows to their calendar - I haven’t had a chance to check it for a week or so, but there are some exciting new additions in April. First off is the Yogoman Burning Band CD Release Party on April 10th, with openers The All-Nighters and Sugar Sugar Sugar. This lineup is as close to perfection as you can get, in my mind, so it kills me that I won’t be able to make this show (not that I’ll be suffering too much - …

One of my favorite local bands, Go Slowpoke, is set to release their new CD, Alphabet, this week . It’s rare for a local band to release more than one CD, so this is great news. It is absolutely stellar, with a variety of pop, country and folk tunes - there’s even a ballad or two. Singer/guitarist Peter Woiwod’s songwriting and lyrics are thoughtful and beg the listener to pay attention - each song is a story. You can hear the whole thing online here, an pick up their CD …

I can’t remember the last time Death Cab For Cutie played Bellingham, but I know it’s long overdue. The last time I saw them was in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, a long time ago. They’re finally hitting town, but sadly (and perhaps controversially), tickets are only available if you are a current WWU student. Which means all of their fans in town that supported them in the beginning can’t go to the show. The fair thing to do would be to have the band play a show at the …

The Nightlight is finally open again! So far they only have 2 shows scheduled - tonight (2/9) is Juana Molina and Wedndesday (2/11) is Yogoman spinnin’ records (for just $3!). I’m looking forward to seeing more additions to their concert calendar, but this is a great start!
Update: The Nightlight just sent out this e-mail to folks signed up to their e-newsletter:
Greetings Nightlight Family & Friends: A belated Happy New Year to one and all. The thing about the new year is that no matter what, pipedream or not, it seems …

I haven’t made it down Holly Street for a couple of weeks (until the What’s Up show on Saturday) and just noticed that the new Glow Nightclub has an entryway and sign on the street level of the building. Then I read a short article in the Bellingham Business Journal with a few more details - it sounds though like it should be opening in the next week or two. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the nightclub scene, but still, it’s very cool that Bellingham will soon …

This is the 2nd fanzine from my collection of zines from the early-to-mid 90’s. This was a freebee that came with a cassette tape featuring the unique stylings of Grover and Noggin. Sadly, I don’t have a cassette player at the moment, but I’ll find a way to listen to it later and review it here. I picked this one up at the Newstand, which at the time seemed to be the best place to pick up free local fanzines. You could also find them at the 3-B and the …

As if Cap Hansen’s isn’t busy enough (the last time I was there it took about 15 minutes to get a Maker’s on the rocks!), they have now added shows in addition to their offerings of cheap booze. I’m not sure exactly how they squeeze in a few amps and a drum kit, but I hope to check out a show there very soon. At the moment they’ve got Dandelion Junk Queens, a band that mixes gypsy with punk, coming on January 30th (hey, that’s tomorrow night!), followed by Gabe …
