The Nightlight Lounge has closed again, probably for good this time, due to unpaid rent and unpaid taxes. Hopefully someone can take over the space, with all of the improvements in place and without the debt, and bring it back from the ashes once again. Two of my favorite bands, a long-time favorite (Camera Obscura) and a new favorite (The XX) are coming to the Nightlight Lounge in April. Although I have all of Camera Obscura’s albums and singles, I’ve never been able to make it down to one of their Seattle shows. I never thought they’d play Bellingham, but The Nightlight always surprises me with some of their bookings, and they’ve really come through with this one. Get your tickets quick, because this one is sure to sell out.

Yogoman Burning Band is heading out on a West Coast tour tomorrow (Wednesday) and will be playing shows between Seattle and L.A. and then back to Bellingham. In April YBB will be releasing their next CD, called City Of Subdued Excitement, and will join Iron & Wine for a few shows in May.

I can’t remember the last time Death Cab For Cutie played Bellingham, but I know it’s long overdue. The last time I saw them was in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, a long time ago. They’re finally hitting town, but sadly (and perhaps controversially), tickets are only available if you are a current WWU student. The Nightlight is finally open again! So far they only have 2 shows scheduled - tonight (2/9) is Juana Molina and Wedndesday (2/11) is Yogoman spinnin’ records (for just $3!). I’m looking forward to seeing more additions to their concert calendar, but this is a great start!

Bellingham desperately needs the Nightlight to re-open - we are simply lacking a decent venue for touring bands. Wild Buffalo is great for the kinds of shows that it’s been delivering for years, but when it gets really full (like at the last Devotchka show) it gets miserable. The Mt.
