The Nightlight Lounge Is Closed, Again…

The Nightlight Lounge has closed again, probably for good this time, due to unpaid rent and unpaid taxes. Hopefully someone can take over the space, with all of the improvements in place and without the debt, and bring it back from the ashes once again. For now, let’s support the Wild Buffalo and make sure they continue to book the kind of shows this town deserves. Most of the shows previously booked at the Nightlight are now at the Wild Buffalo - still waiting for confirmation on The XX and …

Camera Obscura & The XX Coming To The Nightlight

Two of my favorite bands, a long-time favorite (Camera Obscura) and a new favorite (The XX) are coming to the Nightlight Lounge in April. Although I have all of Camera Obscura’s albums and singles, I’ve never been able to make it down to one of their Seattle shows. I never thought they’d play Bellingham, but The Nightlight always surprises me with some of their bookings, and they’ve really come through with this one. Get your tickets quick, because this one is sure to sell out.
Another great show on the horizon …

Donnkie & Gunther Memorial / Family Benefit Shows

There are 3 shows set for this coming weekend that have been set up to remember Donnkie & Gunther, two guys that were connected in some way or another to just about everyone in the local arts and music scene. Even though I didn’t know them personally, I know lots of people who did and know how much they meant to them. I know I will miss Gunther’s crazy photography during his stage invasions at shows all over town - I have taken photos at many shows, but have never …

Upcoming Nightlight Shows - Yogoman & Budos Band

The Nightlight has slowly been adding new shows to their calendar - I haven’t had a chance to check it for a week or so, but there are some exciting new additions in April. First off is the Yogoman Burning Band CD Release Party on April 10th, with openers The All-Nighters and Sugar Sugar Sugar. This lineup is as close to perfection as you can get, in my mind, so it kills me that I won’t be able to make this show (not that I’ll be suffering too much - …

Death Cab For Cutie Coming To Bellingham

I can’t remember the last time Death Cab For Cutie played Bellingham, but I know it’s long overdue. The last time I saw them was in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room, a long time ago. They’re finally hitting town, but sadly (and perhaps controversially), tickets are only available if you are a current WWU student. Which means all of their fans in town that supported them in the beginning can’t go to the show. The fair thing to do would be to have the band play a show at the …

The Nightlight’s Back In Business!

The Nightlight is finally open again! So far they only have 2 shows scheduled - tonight (2/9) is Juana Molina and Wedndesday (2/11) is Yogoman spinnin’ records (for just $3!). I’m looking forward to seeing more additions to their concert calendar, but this is a great start!
Update: The Nightlight just sent out this e-mail to folks signed up to their e-newsletter:
Greetings Nightlight Family & Friends: A belated Happy New Year to one and all. The thing about the new year is that no matter what, pipedream or not, it seems …

What’s Up With The Nightlight?

Bellingham desperately needs the Nightlight to re-open - we are simply lacking a decent venue for touring bands. Wild Buffalo is great for the kinds of shows that it’s been delivering for years, but when it gets really full (like at the last Devotchka show) it gets miserable. The Mt. Baker Theatre has a new space and are starting to book some decent shows, but it still doesn’t completely fill the void that the closure of the Nightlight has left. There have been random bits of info in the Cascadia …
